There's been some follow up to a story I posted about last month on eighty-something grandparents losing custody of their grandson to foster care.
The grandparents, Morris (88) and Mildred (85) Brasovankin, are fighting to bring their hyperactive grandson home, and the question they are facing from all quarters is, of course: How old... more
This post starts off having nothing to do with adoption, but when I saw the headline, "How Old is Too Old?" in this story I had to take a closer look.
So, what else besides the contemplation of adopting small children could possibly prompt a question like that?
How old is too old for learning to ski? Nope. Geezers take that up every winter and some resorts have special classes for the careful-about-the-old-bones set.

Although I have four kids, only half of them came to me as newborns. Sam and Cj were both over three-months-old before we were allowed to meet them, touch them, smell them, and bring them home, and although that is young for international adopted children, as anyone who's been around babies knows, a three-month-old is most certainly not a newborn.
I still begrudge every minute of those three months these kids were out of my grasp, and am often reminded just how much I missed in having them pass those early days... more
With the new regulations on adopting from China coming into play next month, readers are asking what other countries impose a maximum age limit for adoption. (China is lowering theirs to 50, or 55 for special needs kids.)
Although most countries are clear about the minimum age allowed between child and adoptive parents ... most often asking for parents 25 or older, or a certain number of years between child and parents ... those that... more
It's the end of the month, so time for me to clean off my desk and dish out the information I've been hoarding lately.
For starters, if you've been thinking about adopting from China, but now will no longer qualify due to their upcoming new restrictions, there's a new Yahoo group for you.
Here's the description from their home page:
Ineligible to adopt from China? Welcome. Already have Chinese children but no longer... more
Haiti is one of those countries you hear about where children live in extreme poverty living on the streets, but I didn't know if children got adopted out to other countries so I did a bit of research today.
Here's some stats about Haiti adoption visas issued to USA residents:
Fiscal Year Number of Immigrant Visas Issued FY 2005 234 FY 2004 355 FY 2003 248 FY 2002 186 FY 2001 192
The number went down in 2005, but I couldn't find out why.
Currently, 200,000... more
Thinking of adopting from Korea?
The South Korea adoption program is the oldest organized international adoption program operating in the U.S. In 2005, U.S. citizens adopted approximately 1,630 children from South Korea.
You can adopt from Korea up to forty five years of age.
Some restrictions may be lifted for older children or special needs children, so check with your agency.

Lets get right to it. Parents up to 45 years old may adopt from India. Parents fifty years
and above may adopt older children.
Upon further research I have come to belive it depends upon both the orphanage and the agency you deal with as to the exact upper age limit. Here's the rest of the info complied from various sources.
(Resource links below)
Generally, applicants 30-45 years of age may adopt an infant from India (Combined married parents' ages can be up to 90). Older parents may be able to adopt a toddler.

Adopting as an older parent ....
I’ve been doing a bit of research into which countries are older parent adoption friendly, and in this series I’ll start looking at a specific countries,
the maximum ages allowed, and other specifics into adopting from that particular country.
I thought I'd start with China. According to adoption.com, China has one of the most established adoption process of all the international adoption. Statistics show adoption from China is rising steadily each year and the... more
