Still cold and stormy here!

It’s cold and frosty here in Colorado. We are in the middle of a blizzard – the largest in nine years.

I’ve been without any internet access all day due to our power lines being weighted down by wet heavy snow. We live in a very old area with only a few homes and our power lines will probably never get buried, so our internet and phone goes out on a regular basis.

When we first moved here we were on a party line. Four of our neighbors shared one phone line with us and when we wanted to call our family we had to yell at the drunk alcoholic who lived down the road... more

Snow in Colorado !No yoga or work out for me today.

At least not in the gym. I’ve taken this photo at 8:00 am out my front door. Although there isn’t much snow yet, all this snow has come in the last hour and we except a full blizzard to hit our street this morning.

Already all the bus service is cancelled, the schools and libraries closed and emergency shelters set up for the homeless and stranded.

Even the malls are closed!

Hubby actually got up early to go to work and beat the storm! (Only a guy would do that, huh?) He... more

My Lioness and moving to Norway?

Sometimes I’m not sure if it is because I’m getting older, or just become I’m more family oriented that Boo at the Zoo is actually a fun evening out for me now. K the Lioness

Last night we took K up in her lion costume and watch as she growled and occasionally barked to get candy. Once I asked what her trick would be, but she just said HUH?, obviously not getting the concept that they might not have candy for her and it would go to trick stage.

Hubby and I immediately took out all the good stuff. (mini Snickers bars, M & M’s and a mini... more

my weight off and getting smaller?

Last week I posted a photo of myself and a kind reader commented after I commented on another comment on another blog:

Funny what we'll each put on our blogs. There is no way in hell I'd post a photo like you did... and while I tell my weight, I won't photograph the scale.

Humm....Maybe you were in awe of my self confidence?

Or perhaps you just thought I was stupid enough to think I looked good?

Whatever.

Thanks for... more

http://older-parent.adoptionblogs.com/I'll be doing my actual weight check in later today, but I wanted to tell you the good news.

I did not buy any chocolate malted milk balls this week.

This is actually a big step for me and I'm proud.

Don't get confused though, it's still me hiding under twenty pounds of added skin and padding - I have eaten a lot of chocolate. I discovered a new cookie this week - Keeblers mint chocolate. Sigh.

But I've also eaten some grapes, apples and a whole cucumber sliced with salt and pepper... more

My weight off bowl of fruit

As you can see from my photo I was serious after the trip to the grocery store yesterday.

Apples, Bananas, Oranges and Avocados.

Yes avocados have a lot of fat, but it's the good kind that will help you feel better and control mood swings etc.

Avocados contain folate, potassium, monosaturated fats and are very high in fiber. The monosaturated fats in avocados contain oleic acid. It has been found to improve... more

My weight check on very mean scaleIt’s Thursday today.

I considered moving the round dial on my scale counter clockwise before I took this phototo to make it look like I lost weight this week.

I decided to cut all my hair off instead.

And I then thought better of it.

I joined Weight Loss Buddies for free this week and got a small team of people where we all support each other.

I got an email from one team member about Halloween Candy; How should we handle the candy issue... more

Average age of foster parents? Old!

Walking around the Colorado Foster Parent Conference last week I noticed everyone was old.

Or at least over forty - mostly.

There were several people in their fifties with small toddlers. There were several people even older with teenagers. Several people who looked to be in their seventies – apparently still being foster parents.

That’s the thing with fostering, I think you get better with age. You’ve got more life experience to handle all... more

Our previously loved, adored and beautiful cat Willow is now officially as welcome around my house today as the

MOUSE SHE LEFT IN OUR SHOWER.

I was showering, soap in the hair and eyes and all, and K was sitting on the shower floor as she often does playing with her plastic pooh and innocently tugged at my knee.

Mom

Hold on Honey, I have to rinse.

M O M

Just a sec, Let me get the soap out of... more

Going to Vegas with a baby - not.

Once upon a time I went to Vegas and saw the Cirque du Soleil shows, played nickel slots until dawn, and stumbled home with my man on my arm. (My husband you guys!)….

I’m not a shopper. I’m not a glitz lover, and I don’t have lots of money to throw away. Even if I did, I wouldn’t throw it away. I’m to sensible like that.

But I love to watch other people do it.

I love Vegas mostly for the fun of the shows, great restaurants, a bit of fun at... more
