So, evolutionary scientists would say that adoption makes no sense, and as far as evolution goes, it doesn't, but this study has shown that adoptive parents do, indeed, invest in their children "as much if not more" than bio parents do.
This is NOT a slam on bio parents; it is simply a statement of the facts of the study as they found them. The scientific parameters are there for the reading, by the way.
The report... more

Rather than spend the hours I normally would composing blog posts addressing comments on yesterday's blogs, I'll use the time constructively and do both at the same time.
Oooooh ... multitasking! I'll even keep my kids' snotty noses wiped (They both have colds, and Sam is home from school this week because he's just too miserable to leave the house.), get the laundry done AND do my Kegels at the same time.
So, with no further ado ...

What happens with the more than 90% of child fatalities caused by bio parents? Some hand wringing. A brief flurry of news in the town where the abuse occurred.
Articles like this:
The father of the youngest alleged victim of the seven fatal child abuse cases in Doña Ana County since 2001 will face a jury starting today.

As most everyone in the adoption world has heard, a study that says adoptive parents are good has been making headlines and has some people all riled up.
I mentioned it briefly, and included a link to the pdf so anyone interested enough could read the whole thing... more
I am SUCH a lucky woman!
As an example of why this is so, here's my morning:
Mark hauled the kids downstairs, managing to do so without waking me, fixed them their tea, and boiled a couple of eggs for Sam's midmorning school snack. Once the sun was well up, he took them for a stroll around our garden.
Just before he was to leave for work, the three of them came upstairs.
"Happy Valentine's Day!" were the first words I heard, and a bouquet of flowers in the hands of my darling son was my first... more
Sticking with the older-women-are-hot theme I started on about yesterday, I've found yet another reason not to put much in the way of undue stress on ourselves about looks.
It seems, you see, that unless it's other women you're out to impress ... and how can that be anything but a HUGE waste of time? Unless, of course, you're a lesbian, then it makes sense ... the need to conform to the avereage man-on-the-street's idea of beauty... more
Back in early November, I was interviewed on adoption issues by a reporter from Seychelles Broadcasting Company's television news arm.
The local version of the report aired a while back, but some of it was repackaged and sent to CNN for their, "World Report" segment. I had word this morning that it will be airing this weekend.
There are two versions of "World Report", one on general news, referred to below as 'Program A', and one... more

Well I'm tellin' ya. If there's anything in this world that can keep you young forever, it has got to be celebrating Christmas with your children. Heck, celebrating Christmas with anyone's children really ought to do the trick.
We have done all of the shopping and wrapping. We have run ourselves from pillar to post with one party, church pagent, gathering, school concert, after another. We have opened the gifts. We have hauled out the trash. We have made all the Christmas day phone calls and eaten the Christmas dinner. My husband and I have done all... more
I wrote yesterday about Sam and his some-flavor-of-cousin Kelly, and voiced some confusion over just how the whole cousin thing is defined.
Seems I wasn't alone in cousinfusion, so as a service to the members of the public who aren't clear ... both of us ... on when someone's degreed or removed, I looked it up.
Here's a link that confused... more
