Ok, I'm not old, (but my eyes are)

Most of the time I don’t feel old. Occasionally I feel wise. Sometimes I feel curmudgeondy and at times I can be just plain cranky.

Usually I’m pretty even keeled and my moods pass quickly. I think that has more to do with the moon, humidity level, (29% UGH), and what I ate - or didn’t eat - for breakfast. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the years that have wizzed by me, leaving me in a wake of bewilderment. Can anyone tell me? - what happened to the 90's?

An ounce of prevention

Several weeks ago I published a post about the importance of taking care of yourself physically as an older adoptive parent. In that post I mentioned that I was scheduled for a screening colonoscopy. Well folks, today was the day. I was scared to death. My mother died of colon cancer when she was just 55 years old. How tragic is that?

In terms of prevention, I should have had a screening several years ago since I had a first degree relative to die from the illness at such a young age, but, I didn't. I finally worked up the courage and got around to it. I'm glad I did. All went... more

The Annual Physical. TMI Alert!

The results from my annual physical indicate that I am in terrific health. It looks like, barring any unforseen tragedy, I will be around at least another year to enjoy my family. Yay! That is a good thing. You know with us older mothers, you just never can tell.(wink, wink)

My blood pressure typically hovers in the 112/75 range. Many of my friends, who are my age and younger have high blood pressure, a condition that is common for African Americans.
