My husband is a passionate man. Although much of what gets my dander up rolls off him like water off a duck's back, the things he does care about get his whole heart and soul.
His kids are the light of his life, and our family is at the center of his world. The only thing that he'll voluntarily ... and enthusiastically, I'll add ... sign up for that puts distance between him and his family is fishing. Although the charm of bobbing around in a tiny boat for hours on end as it fills with wriggling, smelly fish escapes me... more
I've been talking about money lately, so this story from the UK titled, "Older Men Build the Biggest Debts" grabbed my eye.
According to the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, there's been a 65% increase in demands for service in the last year with significant numbers of older people needing help to get back... more

Today is my father's birthday. He was born on the 4th of March in 1924. His time was so very, very different from this age, even though it's only been fifteen years since he died, and I've been thinking a lot lately of how much he would have liked 2007.
Although he grew up milking cows by hand and could vividly recall his parents' first Model T Ford ... he had a story about having to drive backwards up a steep slope because the old... more
I was talking about older men ...
Anyway ...
For the past few days, one hot topic on the GAARP group has been older single moms ... 50-somethings ... pining for potential male partners.
They're looking for adoption-friendly men ready to settle down and raise a family later in life, maybe even with a tender spot for special needs kids and the women who'd love to care for them
Apparently,... more
Since Mark is 40 now, I suppose he could be considered an older parent, so photos of him doing dad stuff qualify as bloggable.
I'll post a few from Sunday when he was fishing with the kids in the lagoon at the end of our road. You'll get a good look at the one that didn't get away ... although all were released and no fish were injured in the making of this blog.

The Foundation for large families has a cute article about parenting after age fifty. The Dad in this article was on vacation with his seven children – all age seven and younger!
Of course he was mistaken for the Granddad...
Kudos to him. Seven under seven.
Whew.
Later in the same article, we learn of the beginnings of the GAARP group... more
You gotta read this article about Clarence Edmonson, age 71, and his wife, Deborah, age 47, who recently adopted a 16 month old cutie named Naomi! The article is chocked so full of adoption relevant topics, I didn't know if I should post it here on the Older Parent Adoption blog, or on my other blog on Adoptive Parenting, or pass it on to Bill over at the Foster Care Blog, or to Michelle at the Foster Adopt Blog, or to Laura at the Christian Adoption Blog. I would love to... more
In comes a younger couple with two grade school children, maybe about five and seven years old. The older gentleman enthusiastically greeted them all, while the older woman continued to run around with Typical Toddler. I was so relieved for the grandparents. Finally, the child's parents had arrived. But, nooooo. I overheard the younger woman say to the older woman with a chuckle, "I don't envy you!" The older woman smiled weakly. Then the younger woman bent down and kissed Typical Toddler and said in that mommy sing-song voice "You givin' your mama a hard time,(child's... more
Ok, here's a twist I'd never heard of.
I know, I know, I live a sheltered life out here in Colorado.
Oh wait - This story comes from the very heart of the midwest!
Tick, tock, tick, tock.
Listen up, men: your biological clock could be ticking.
For Minneapolis resident Chuck Stroebel, his alarm went off when he reached his late 30s. He knew it was time to have a child — even if it meant raising it alone.
"I realized I was turning 40," he said. "I didn't want to be too old while raising a child.... more
Bruce Willis adopting? Yes, No, Maybe.
Well known movie star Bruce Willis said recently he wants to adopt a child but wants to get married first.
No, he isn't dating anyone, just wants to get married, then adopt.
He doesn't want a nanny raising his next child.
The news flash came across my screen this morning and so I did a bit of searching.
Apparently his disabled child... more
