Guilt Free Candy cornCandy corn for halloweenIt is Halloween and we’ve got a big day planned. The routine will be about the same for a Tuesday, but K will be in her Lions costume all day.

She’s been practicing her growl and tells me everyone will be scared.

Last year she didn't quite 'get' Halloween, - this year she's all over it. At almost three, she loves to be 'scared' at the other costumes and props in the stores - as long as I'm close by to protect her!

I belong to a small church that promotes critical thinking and spiritual journey over dogma. It is exactly the type of church I’ve been searching for all these years.

(I’ve got a two year degree/certificate in ‘Holistic Theology”, and I've found that even many liberal, metaphysical type churches have some dogma attached. It's been hard to find a church that welcomes my strange thinking without trying to change me.)

So, it is with pleasure that this church allows me to come to my own conclusions based upon my own path – no matter how long it takes. - Although they'll help me with understanding to try to speed up the process for me.

Anyhow, digressing again... Back to Halloween:

Our pastor had a great message for us regarding Halloween and I thought I’d share a few points that I particularly liked with you:

Halloween is about community. Go out and about, meet your neighbors, be friendly, share some goodies, and get to know the neighborhood children.

Halloween is about creativity. Use your imagination; dress up as someone or something fun and unusual. Create your own costume. Paint or carve a pumpkin

Halloween is about fun. Get out and enjoy yourself. Take the day or evening to relax and laugh with your friends and family.

Halloween is about candy. It’s one of the few times you can eat it guilt free! (Yes she really said that.)

So, there you go. From my pastor's mouth to yours.

Enjoy your candy.

Guilt free - one day only!

(obviously Pastor had other good religious and spiritual teachings, but I particulary remember the eat your candy directive!)

My husband always says there are no calories on vacation. A pastor who encourages eating candy? I like it!
