Continued from previous post about hiking on my mountain. (No, I don’t own it, but I used to hike every day up to the top – so I’m at least a caretaker.)
I’m lucky enough to live at the bottom of a canyon with the mountain walls towering above our backyard. Actually, we don’t have a backyard -it’s a mountain in our backyard. The one I like to hike.
As I mentioned, I gave up hiking for a treadmill as it was just too much for the children.
And that meant my doggies didn’t get to hike anymore either. They had to be content with chasing squirrels and running around the front yard.

Today, my dogs are happy! K and I and the dogs went hiking.
I’m ready to loose the ten pounds or so, and get back in shape, and watch my mountain grow and change again.
Although, for K’s first big real hike, I wasn’t optimistic about it.
After all, K is only two and three quarters. Not even three, and I’ve taken small children on walks before.
Their legs get tired.
Just as I expected. One minute and twenty seconds into the hike.
Mom this is hard.
Mom my legs hurt.
Mom can we rest now.
Uh uh I answered on each statement.
Uh uh
And I kept hiking…..very slowly…hiking…. walking up one small step at a time, so she wouldn’t get behind.
Ant then, after a while
We’re really high mom!
And then, look at this prickly flower.
And then, we were really high. Almost to the top.
Then, without warning, she started getting whiney…
M O M
M O M M Y
Pick me up!!!
Oh oh.
Turn around time.
I can’t pick her up and carry her down the mountain so we sang all the way down.
We hiked the mountain, Up to the top of the mountain!
We didn’t make it all the way to the top, but I’m so proud of my hiking daughter.
