I'm getting serious. I think. Maybe

My weight off bowl of fruit

As you can see from my photo I was serious after the trip to the grocery store yesterday.

Apples, Bananas, Oranges and Avocados.

Yes avocados have a lot of fat, but it's the good kind that will help you feel better and control mood swings etc.

Avocados contain folate, potassium, monosaturated fats and are very high in fiber. The monosaturated fats in avocados contain oleic acid. It has been found to improve fat levels in the body and help control diabetes. By using avocados as their primary source of fat in the diet, diabetes sufferers can lower their triglycerides by up to 20%. In addition to being helpful to those with diabetes, the monosaturated fats in avocados are good for lowering cholesterol. A lowfat diet containing avocados has been shown to both lower levels of dangerous low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and raise the level of healthy high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. In addition, triglycerides were also lowered slightly.

Avocados are also a huge source of fiber, containing 10 grams in only one avocado. As we all know, fiber is known to help prevent high blood pressure, heart disease, and certain types of cancer, particularly colon cancer. Avocados also contain 30% more potassium than a banana. Potassium is beneficial to the body by lowering the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack and cancer. In addition, avocados are the perfect food for pregnant women. The folate in one avocado per day provides almost 30% of the recommended daily dosage and helps prevent life threatening birth defects of the spine and brain.

As you can see, the benefits of avocados are long reaching. Still worried about fat? Look for Florida grown avocados. They contain about 2/3 the calories and half the fat of California grown avocados. Also, stick with those harvested between November and March; they contain 1/3 the fat of those picked earlier in the season.

Opps, Not winter avocados yet!

And anyway, it is the chips that go with the Avocado that I deliberately didn't buy this week.

No chips=no guacamole=no margaritas.

That's a weight loss program.

I haven't eaten a apple yet today, but I have them handy just in case the craving for an apple sets in.

Red delicious are my favorites, and they are good for you too!

Canadian scientists say Red Delicious apples have more antioxidants called polyphenols than seven other apple varieties. The findings appear in the June 29 issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, an American Chemical Society (ACS) publication.

Scientists already knew that apples are loaded with antioxidants, which protect against "free radicals" that may cause problems including cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease.....

In March, other scientists said apples may protect against breast cancer.....

Great news for Breast Cancer Awareness month!

So, my plan is to eat apples this week. Lots of them in place of sugar stuff.

I'm also working out every day; if my dang blasted 24 hour fitness workout place wouldn't be so cheap and turn the heat up!

My workouts are getting more intense and I'm checking my heartbeat to make sure I get it up high enough to make a difference without keeling over because I'm over forty.

Ok. I think I can I think I can.

Lets all count the amount of apples eaten this week!

Ready, Set GO TEAM!

My mom always taught me not to put bananas with other fruit (or potatoes with onions) because the gasses cause the other fruit to go bad more quickly... Of course, it looks nice in the picture!

Bon appetit!

Funny you should mention apples. I went to bed thinking apples. Which I did not remember to get. I love Gala apples: Red, crisp and tart with a hint of sweet. I can't wait to run out and get a bunch. Glad to hear about avacados having the good fat. I'll pick up those too. This morning I had a protein drink: rice milk, rice protein, bananas and blueberries. Yum, it was good. I took suppliments with: Multi vita for active seniors (I wish), CoQ10 (water soluble), Selenium, Lysine, and calcium. For break I had a cup of Chai tea and peanut butter on a graham cracker. For lunch I had one slice of pizza and about 12 oz of chocolate pudding. Boy am I serious! My work out consisted of about a 3/4 mile hike/walk. Did I mention I have a spur on my right heel! Ouch! Walking and hiking, my favorite thing to do is not too much fun of late. Oh, well, I keep on trudging along.

Now, now! 24 Hour Fitness is doing you a FAVOR keeping the temperature low. It makes you burn more calories to keep warm in the first place, and then you burn them while you work out, but you have to work out enough to swear, uh I mean sweat. :)

You may want to add wheat pasta (instead of regular pasta) and brown rice (vs. white)to your diet. My doctor says it takes longer for brown rice and wheat pasta to turn to sugar so you have a better chance of burning it off before that sugar turns to fat. :) We've been eating it for about a year and it hasn't killed us yet.

kristint: yea I guess as my toes are freezing in yoga I'll think of you thanks. :)

Mo: Right now I mix the pasta with wheat and I do brown rice sometimes. I try to get whole grains in as much as I can. Thanks for the tip!

Here is my favorite way to eat avacados sans chips. Cut avacado in half, leave in skin and remove pit. Finely dice a very sweet onion and mix with a dash of your favorite salsa. Fill cavity of each avacado half with the onion mix and sprinkle with lemon or vinegar. Eat with a spoon....Yummy

Go over to Core Power Yoga either on Nevada or GoG and take their Hot Yoga class. Now that'll get you swearing/sweating! You can try all of their classes for a week FREE, and then if you like it, the first month is $79.

Krinstint: I did over 300 Bikram classes back when it was the original studio. I LOVED IT. Now I need day care and can't do it anymore. :(

Great tip though.
