Today is the sixth of … of … DECEMBER! Ack!

I have SO lost track of time. With deadlines … three, count ‘em, three of them … looming, TV appearances, daily blogging, kids going through ‘phases’, a husband who’s been testy ever since his birthday last month, friends in the midst of issues, new parents off to Cambodia, an employee who’s not with the program, and life, yes, just plain life in general bogging, tugging, demanding, nagging, lurking, I have completely lost all the time I was planning on using to get ready for Christmas.

It dawned on me yesterday … that would be the 5th of December … that it’s way too late to place all those Amazon orders that were going to take care of my gift needs locally. Now I’m going to have to take a day off to go into Victoria to try to find things people might actually like. This is no easy task, although I might assuage the kids’ gift lust a bit with Chinese-made plastic junk full of dangerous, detachable parts just built for choking a toddler. And, hey! They only cost a ridiculous fortune. Everyone else will have to settle for … well, I don’t know what will end up in the packages, but ’settle for’ will certainly be the overwhelming emotion when the unwrapping happens.

(If only I could get a gift like the one in the photo for Sam! He’s be SO happy. The litter box is a problem, however.)

And those festive cards I was going to have made up in October? Well, that didn’t happen, so the boat has sailed and people will have to make due with a hearty, Happy Holidays! posted on the blog.

I have a whole file of holiday-topic post titles that I’ve been filing as I find them, with the thought of a couple of weeks of theme blogging in December, but I keep coming across things like new stats on AIDS orphans and post-adoption depression that shift my focus away from “Silver Bells” faster than you can say, “Happy Valentine’s Day” … which is about when I’ll be getting the tree up.

  1. TV Appearances? Problems with your employee? WE are so out of touch with your personal life. I’ve given up sending cards. For years I had good intentions but the pressure was too much.. I love your idea of a shout out via the blog. Merry Christmas everyone!

Your picture reminded me of…I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas…and made me smile!!!

  3. I’d be updating on the personal front … if I just had a little more time!

And, Julie … that photo makes me smile every time I see it. I keep it on my desktop for exactly that purpose. Baby rhinos are SO cute.

My only excuse for getting nothing done the last 6 months is a perfect one: I’m raising a baby pretty much on my own. Everyone is excusing me for not doing my usual.

Anyway, I no longer do Holiday cards, but sometimes in January I send out New Years Greetings to all the people who have sent me cards. Eases the guilt.

    Happy Holiday!
    Lisa

  5. Good idea, Lisa! I just might have more time then, too.
