Okay, the headline for the day wasn't
Hey! It's a Saturday!, and it's certainly not every weekend that sees a TV crew camping out on my veranda, but yesterday we were doing a mini-version of the television tango at
Chez Sandra, courtesy of Srdjana Janosevic, the reporter putting the story together, and
Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation.

I've been trying to get a dialog going on the topic of adoption for quite a while now, and with limited success. An article I wrote for the local newspaper ... and serialized
here ... did get some discussion going, but it's taken the world sticking its finger in the live socket of sensationalism ... the shock waves reaching here conveniently during the first week of Adoption Awareness Month ... to get a good buzz going.
All of a sudden, the local media is interested in adoption issues, and I can only say
Thank you, Madonna!
I did a relatively long interview for one of two programs to be aired locally examining both domestic and international adoption and how both systems work, or don't work, in Seychelles. (Since one program will be in English and the other in Creole, Mark and I tagged-teamed with him doing the Eloquent Dad Thing in the language he's most comfortable speaking, while I spouted off in my native tongue.)
We're not the only interviewees, and I'm well aware that one of the others is of the anti-adoption bent, so I drove my points home with all the force and sincerity I feel, and also a lot of information backing up my POV.
Dealing with the media is always a case of
Ya spins da wheel, ya takes yer chances, so it's with tightly crossed fingers I await the end result.
No matter, however, the topic is now open for discussion, and I intend to be discussing it a lot in the future.
