Yes, we all know that November is Adoption Awareness Month. Aside from Thanksgiving … so very sadly not a holiday where I live, and one I miss a whole bunch … various other designations of specialness have been bestowed upon the month, some weeks, and just about every single day.

(Who does said bestowing is not within my realm to know, and I’m kinda of happy about that.)

Just in case you’re looking for something else to get all squishy and sentimental about … as if kids munching turkey at warm family get-togethers isn’t enough … you won’t be completely alone if you decide to celebrate November as Aviation Month, Child Safety and Protection Month, Good Nutrition Month, International Drum Month, Latin American Month, National Epilepsy Month, National Model Railroad Month and, high on my list of personal favorites, Peanut Butter Lover’s Month.

If you find yourself too busy to commemorate a whole month of stick-to-the-roof-of-the-mouth adoration with festive fun, most days have something to celebrate … if you’re not too picky.

Unless you were paying attention, we’ve already missed National Author’s Day, Cookie Monster’s Birthday, National Deviled Egg Day, National Candy Day and National Donut Day. (Sprinkles … )

Election Tuesday happened this year to fall on Hug-a-Bear Day, which seems somehow right to me.

Today, the 8th of November is Ta Daaaaaaa! X-ray Day.

Tomorrow, the 9th, is Parade Day, so you can march around your neighborhood and no one can accuse you of just being silly.

The 14th will be National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day, so knock yourself out with that one.

The 15th, not only my husband’s 40th birthday, but Pack Your Mom Lunch Day. Wooopie!

The 16th is Button Day, and the 17th gives you an interesting agenda with Homemade Bread Day falling on Take A Hike Day and National Young Reader’s Day.

The 21st is World Hello Day, followed by Stop The Violence Day appropriately set for the 22nd … the day JFK was assassinated.

In case you’re still hungry, the 23rd is National Cashew Day and the 26th is National Cake Day.

The 27th is Pins and Needles Day, so I suppose sitting on your arm until it falls asleep would be one way to celebrate.

Whew. I’m pooped just thinking about all these events and the commotion they’ll stir up in parties and galas and such.

Thankfully, the month ends with a very sensible Stay At Home Because You’re Well Day.

I’ll be celebrating that one.

  1. November is also Prematurity Awareness Month; something people should take the time to learn more about.
