Continued from last post………
I haven’t read anything closely resembling an adult book in a very long time…....
……
Vanity Fair has become my fast magazine read of choice, -
Christopher Hitchens, controversy and all, and
Dominick Dunne, among my favorite contributors.
Oprah Mag, also comes monthly, (unlike the other monthly visitor who is not nearly as reliable anymore), but only because it was given to me as a present. I like Oprah, but geez, I couldn’t possibly follow through on all the loose weight, read classics, feel good, feed your brain stuff each month.
Sure, she’s inspiring. And most of it I enjoy, but for me, I have to focus on one or two things each year or so. (This year I’ll loose 10 pounds, last year I worried about finding the right bra; next year maybe I’ll re-read one classic novel).
In times past I was an avid reader, - most things on the best seller list hit my desk as well as everything by
Richard Bach. I've studied Christianity and Metaphysics and finally landed a degree in Holistic Theology. I’d stay up late and read about the latest and greatest in self-help theory, and how to sell more widgets so I’d be better in business.
I had goals, dreams, and visions for my life.
Grandeur.
Today, in this life, in my almost late forties, I’m happy to read Rachael Ray's latest veggie recipe and last weeks Sunday funnies.
My dreams and goals include staying fit and healthy to raise K, and maybe her brother or sister.
Someday I’ll finish writing another book. I’m going to do some video editing this month. Nothing fancy, nothing too immediate.
One thing I’ve learned in my years, nothing stays the same for long. In a few more years, I’ll be enthusiastically reading again. When K goes to school I’ll have more time to reinvent myself, and find new dreams and goals.
In the meantime, I’m enjoying the ABC’s, Little Bear,
Hippos and Pooh.
