Continued from here, where we were looking at statistics on adoption disruption and dissolution.

For more details, see the Child Welfare Information Gateway, where it is explained that:

No national data are collected on the number of disruptions and dissolutions or the percentages of adoptive placements that end in disruption or dissolution. Most of the data that are collected are for adoptions from public agencies or those under contract from public agencies. No national studies are available on disruptions or dissolutions of intercountry adoptions or adoptions from private sources.

For families considering disruption, there are a variety of support systems online:

Adoption Disruption is a Yahoo group for, "those who are considering adoption, have adopted and feel they are at risk of disrupting, have disrupted or know a family who has disrupted."

SPONSOR

Parenting Kids With Issues is, "a support group for adoptive parents thinking of disruption, or needs support to keep from disrupting, has disrupted,,, and also for parents parenting kids with issues like, RAD, PTSD, FAS, ODD, ADHD, Bi-polar, behavioral, emotional, mental, and medical issues like sizures, HIV ,kidney, heart, DS, any issues you want to talk about also issues like disruption, thinking of rehoming, guardianship, wanting to adopt, vent all you want ..."

This group is for, "adoptive parents that might consider respite care before disrupting or dissolving their adoption and for the people who would be interested in providing respite care."

Adoption Preservation, "discusses personal and behavioral issues which have typically resulted from special needs adoptions. Behavioral issues such as Reactive Attachment Disorder, Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Fetal Alcohal Syndrome(FAS), Fetal Alcohol Effect (FAE), Passive Aggresive tendencies and many others may be discussed. It is hoped that this group will be an additional support for those families when they are dealing with these incredibly difficult issues (other life issues) and ultimately will serve to help in the preservation of the family and the adoption."

And Carolina Adoption Services "Home Again" program is a resource for children disrupting from International Adoption.
